Opening the CD window provides the choice of the installer and the MECC tour of products.
The installation program gives you two choices. The maximum install copies everything you need to run the program on your hard drive. This uses about 61MB of hard disk space but you won't have to have the CD present to run the program.
The recommended choice installs a minimum of files on your hard drive (see below). You must have the CD in the drive to run the program. The minimum installation creates a Storybook Weaver Deluxe folder. The program's icons and this readme file are installed there. Two sub-folders are created for Saved Stories and Web Documents. Also the following extensions will be installed: Sound Manager 3.2 and QuickTime 2.5, Speech Manager 1.4, MacinTalk Pro 1.4 with voices Victoria, Agnes and Bruce, MacinTalk Español Mexicano 1.4 with voices Carlos and Catalina.
The 2.0 version of Storybook Weaver Deluxe lets you install Story Packs. These Story Packs contain additional scenery, characters, music and sounds effects that work with the existing content. Story Packs are available directly from SoftKey at 800-227-5609.
The User's Guide for Storybook Weaver Deluxe is provided on the program CD in a folder called Manual. To view and/or print the User's Guide, you will need to use the application Acrobat® Reader.
Note: If you do not already have Acrobat Reader, you must first install the application on your hard disk before you can view and print out the User's Guide. We have included a copy of the Acrobat Reader on the Storybook Weaver Deluxe CD for your convenience.
INSTALLING ACROBAT READER
1. Insert the program CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click on the folder called Manual.
3. Double-click on the Install Acrobat Reader 3.0 installer icon.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
VIEWING AND/OR PRINTING OUT THE USER GUIDE
1. Insert the program CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click on the folder called Manual.
3. Double-click on the file entitled SBW.pdf to open the User’s Guide.
4. Choose Print from the File menu.
=================================== MECC Tour ===============================
MECC Tour is a simple program designed to help access items on this CD. To use MECC Tour, put the Storybook Weaver Deluxe CD into the computer. When the window appears, double-click on the MECC Tour icon. Several options are available.
Install - Puts the necessary program files on your computer's hard drive.
Run Storybook Weaver Deluxe - Starts Storybook Weaver Deluxe.
View Readme file - Opens a file with additional information not contained in the user's manual. The file is opened in SimpleText (or TeachText). You may access this file with any text editor.
Connect to web page - Launches your Internet web browser and connects to the MECC home page.
If you are using Internet Config 1.1 or higher, the Browser (HTTP helper) application listed there will be used. Internet Config is a popular freeware application which helps
configure common settings used by many Macintosh Internet applications.
If you are not using Internet Config, you will be asked to locate your browser application the first time you choose to connect to the web page. To change your browser choice, delete the "MECC Tour Prefs" file located in a MECC folder inside the System's Preference Folder. The next time you choose to "Connect to Web Page" you may select the new browser.
If you have problems connecting directly to the web page, exit MECC Tour, launch your browser, then open one of the listed URLS.
Note: If you use a modem to connect to the Internet, remember to disconnect after quitting the browser.

Exit - Quits the MECC Tour.
======================== Tips to Improve Performance =======================
•Turn off File Sharing and/or Virtual Memory.
•Set the Monitors to 256 Colors.
•Make sure the CD (side without printing) is free from scratches, dust, fingerprints, and/or smudges.
•Turn off nonessential extensions. If you are using System 7.5, go into the Control Panel, select Extensions Manager, and then choose System 7.5 Only as the setup. Make sure that you do not turn off the following extensions:
If you have trouble running Storybook Weaver Deluxe from MECC Tour, verify that the program is installed on the hard drive. If the program is installed, exit MECC Tour, then launch Storybook Weaver Deluxe from the hard drive.

The program tells me that there is not enough memory available.
•Try increasing the amount of memory available to Storybook Weaver Deluxe (refer to tips 1 and 4 in the Tips to Improve Performance section for instructions on how to do this).

The program locked-up/froze/crashed/died while I was running it.
•We do not guarantee our products to run with RAM-doubling software. If you are using this type of software, disable it and restart your computer, then try running the Storybook Weaver Deluxe CD again.
•Make sure that you have no other applications running, such as word processors and screen savers.
•Turn off “Third-party" desktops such as KidDesk® and AtEase®.
•Turn off the Modern Memory Manager in the Memory Control Panel (Power Macintoshes). Turn on 32-bit addressing (non-Power Macintoshes).
•Turning off extensions may help with a limited RAM situation or prevent an extension conflict. Don’t use the Shift key at restart--that will turn off ALL the extensions, including those you need for this program. System 7.5.x users can use the Extensions Manager Control Panel to make these adjustments. System 7.1.x users should refer to their system software's user manual to learn how to make these changes.
•Verify that the CD-ROM is clean. It is possible that the CD-ROM has become unreadable due to fingerprints, scratches, or dust. Try cleaning the CD-ROM with a soft cotton cloth, wiping it in a straight line from the center hole towards the outside edge. Do not use paper towels, do not use any cleaning fluids, and do not wipe in a circle.

The program won't print.
•Verify that the printer is properly connected.
•Try printing this document by clicking on File and then Print.
•You may need to adjust the background printing option for your printer by using the Chooser.

I'm not getting any sound.
•Open the control panel "Sound" and set the volume level for your Macintosh speaker. If you have external speakers, make sure that your speakers are turned on and that the connection is made to the sound output jack.

My picture is too small / displays goofy colors.
•Verify that your monitor is set to 640x480x256 colors.

Delete Getting Started movie to save disk space
To conserve space on your hard drive, after viewing the Getting Started tutorial, delete it. The files are easy to find. Look for GSEnglish and GSSpanish in the SBW Deluxe Support files folder.

Importing scanned images
You may have varied results when importing your original or scanned images. An image that is imported will have its colors adapted to the Storybook Weaver color set. This color set or palette has worked well for the Storybook Weaver images which are mostly of an illustration or cartoon quality. You may have to experiment with your images. Some images just won't work well with the Storybook Weaver palette. If you import the image to the object editor, you can erase unwanted areas. These erased areas are invisible when the image is saved to the main story page.

Avoiding the 50 object limit
Combine objects with the object editor. Select several objects that are on the page in their desired final positions and use the Cut command to remove them from the page. The images are now in the clipboard. Open the object editor and use the Paste command. Select the checkmark to save the images - now a single image - to the page.
